As a private, independent company, Century Capital Management is proud of the fact its management owns the firm. Century Capital’s management team is the firm’s greatest asset. Possessing significant experience in the industries in which the firm invests, the Private Equity Group subscribes to a team approach that taps into the collective insight and experience of each group member.

James B. Stradtner
Managing Director

Mr. Stradtner has more than thirty-nine years experience as a security analyst, investment banker, financial advisor and private equity investor within the insurance and financial services markets. Prior to Century Capital Management he held positions as a General Partner and investment banker to life insurance, property-casualty insurance, title insurance, insurance brokers and health care companies at Alex, Brown & Sons. He currently serves as a director of Cathedral Capital, Plc., and Legal Mutual Insurance Society of Maryland. Mr. Stradtner earned a BS in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Maryland and an LLB from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the Baltimore Security Analysts Society, the Maryland Bar Association and the National Economists Club.

Richard E. Smith
Managing Director

Mr. Smith has more than thirty years experience in the property-casualty insurance and reinsurance businesses. He held the positions of President and CEO of Converium Reinsurance (North America) Inc. (2001-2003), Zurich Reinsurance (North America) Inc. (1997-2001), and Zurich Reinsurance Centre, Inc. (1995-1997). Prior to joining Zurich, Mr. Smith launched the Market Information Department and Finite Risk brokerage unit of Guy Carpenter & Company, Inc., serving on that Company's board of directors. He has also served on the Boards of ZRC from 1993 until 1997 and of the three Converium operating companies, Converium (Zurich), Converium (Germany) and Converium (North America). Previously, he was responsible for the Property-Casualty Division of A.M. Best Company and was Editor of Best's Insurance Reports and Best's Key Rating Guide. Mr. Smith currently serves as a Trustee and Vice President of the Executive Committee for The Children's Storefront, a private, non-profit tuition free school in Harlem, NY. He holds a BA degree from U.S. International University in San Diego, CA and attended Ohio State University and the U.S. Naval Flight School.

Charles L. Kline
Managing Director

Mr. Kline has more than twenty-five years experience in all facets of the reinsurance industry. As a Managing Director of Guy Carpenter and Company Mr. Kline negotiated risk transfer reinsurances for major insurers both domestically and internationally. In 1993 Mr. Kline left Guy Carpenter & Company to co-found Cat Limited and Hamilton Services in a private equity funding led by Morgan Stanley. Mr. Kline served as President of CAT Limited the reinsurer and Chairman of Hamilton Services which was formed to provide analytics and pricing products to the insurance industry. CAT Limited also formed the financial risk reinsurer, Enterprise Re, with Chubb, Morgan Stanley and GE as co-investors. CAT Limited and Hamilton Services were sold to the ACE Group in 1997 and Enterprise was sold to the Imagine Group in 1999.

Mr. Kline became co-CEO of ACE Capital Products after the sale of CAT Limited and in 1998 became the founding CEO of the Homesite Group, a nationwide homeowners insurer based in Boston and funded by the private equity market led by Morgan Stanley, Chase Capital and others. Mr. Kline stepped down from this position in 2001 by prior agreement, having successfully secured the third and final round of financing and having installed the full management team. Mr. Kline currently serves as a consultant to Los Alamos National Laboratories for the Department of Homeland Security and is a Director of the Bermuda Biological Station for Research and the Brookline Music School. He earned a BBA from Southern Methodist University and an MBA in Finance, Accounting and International Business from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

Gerard Vecchio

Managing Director

Mr. Vecchio has more than nineteen years experience in private equity investing and investment banking in the insurance and health care service industries. Prior to joining Century Capital Management, Mr. Vecchio was a Partner at Conning Capital Partners, a private equity fund manager specializing in financial services and health care services. During Mr. Vecchio’s twelve year tenure at Conning, he concentrated on making investments in property-casualty insurers, outsourcing firms servicing insurance clients, and health care service providers engaged in managing and assuming insurance risks. In his capacity as an investor, Mr. Vecchio served on numerous boards as a director or observer including Arlberg Holdings Company, Inc., Cogent Health Care, Inc., Familymeds, Inc., Home Financial Network, NYMAGIC, Inc., Paradigm Health Care, Paula Financial, Ward North America, Inc. Prior to Conning, Mr. Vecchio held investment banking position with The Firemark Group and Nesbitt Thompson Securities, Inc. where he specialized in the insurance industry. Mr. Vecchio holds a AB in English and Political Science from Middlebury College and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Davis R. Fulkerson
Managing Director

Mr. Fulkerson has more than fourteen years of financial services and investment experience. Prior to joining Century Capital Management he held positions in the interest rate derivatives products area at BankBoston, as a High Yield Bond Analyst for 1838 Investment Advisors, and as a Corporate Finance Associate at Bank of America. He serves on the Board of Directors of eReinsure, Inc., iArchives, Inc. and Rewards Plus of America Corporation. He holds a BA degree from Williams College and earned a Masters degree in Management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Allan W. Fulkerson
Advisor

Mr. Fulkerson’s thirty-five years of experience investing in insurance and related business-services companies provides broad investment perspective, in-depth industry knowledge and an extensive circle of management contacts in the industry. He is a director of Argonaut Group, Inc., Asset Allocation & Management Co., LLC, HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc., International Financial Group, Inc., and Montpelier Re Holdings, Ltd. Previously, he has served as a director of The Galtney Group, Inc., Risk Capital Holdings, Inc., SCUUL Limited, Tempest Reinsurance Co., Terra Nova (Bermuda) Holdings, Ltd., United Educators Risk Retention Group, Inc., and Wellington Underwriting plc. Mr. Fulkerson is a graduate of Williams College and is a former Trustee and Chairman of the Finance Committee and currently sits on the Dean’s Council at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Frank Bazos
Managing Director

Mr. Bazos, a Managing Director of Century, has more than 15 years of private equity experience, primarily in the financial and healthcare services sectors.  After 8 years with TA Associates and ABN-AMRO Private Equity, Mr. Bazos joined Century in1998 and then rejoined the firm in 2006 after two years with North Atlantic Capital.  Mr. Bazos has served on the board or overseen several Century investments including Insystems Technologies, Inc., Asset Allocation and Management, LLC, UHY Advisors., and iArchives, Inc.  Mr. Bazos earned a BA degree from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

Christopher J. Lalonde
Principal

Mr. Lalonde has more than six years of progressively responsible experience in various financial operating roles and private equity. Prior to joining Century Capital Management as an Associate in 2002, he was a Venture Capital Analyst with Lucent Venture Partners and a graduate of Lucent Technologies’ Financial Leadership Development Program. He serves as Board Observer of and Century Capital Management`s representative to Centerprise Advisors, Inc. and is actively involved with Asset Allocation & Management, LLC and LoanCity.com. Mr. Lalonde earned a BA in Economics from Boston College and a Masters degree in Accounting, Entrepreneurial Finance and Strategic Cost Management from Babson College.

Stephen M. Marquardt
Associate

Mr. Marquardt joined Century Capital Management’s Private Equity Group in 2004. He is responsible for proactively sourcing new investment opportunities and provides support to Century Capital Management’s team throughout the investment process. Prior to joining Century Capital Management, Mr. Marquardt spent four years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, most recently as a Senior Tax Consultant specializing in providing consulting services related to mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and divestitures, focusing on Stock Basis and NOL issues. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Merrimack College, with double concentration in Accounting and Finance.
